How We Developed, Designed & Executed A Modern Western Turkish Delight Hailed To Be One Of The Best NY Had Yet To See.
The space, formerly Bouterin, and tucked away under the Queensborough Bridge was in negotiation when Cenk Fikri Inc was brought on board to create a new-style Turkish restaurant in NY for owners Temel and Hatice Artukmac. We wanted to execute a clean minimalist space which upheld those special touches of Western Turkish traditions. Laser cut screens, hammered copper mixed with more subtle quiet textures created a balance between modern and traditional. Our strategy was to create a menu which New Yorkers wouldn’t already understand as typically
Turkish cuisine and introduce them to something fresh. We brought onboard Chef Tevfik Alparslan who hails from Bolu, in the Northwestern part of the country, who’s cuisine bears the Western influences of time spent with Gordon Ramsay. The menu consists of lobster stuffed artichoke hearts, Wedding Soup with roasted almonds, ginger and red beet foam, and aubergine stew topped with swordfish skewers to name a few.
